Stories and highlights

There's always something to celebrate at our school!  From exciting events to proud moments and everyday wins, here are some of our highlights.

Science Day at Shell Cove Public School

Our school was transformed into a vibrant hub of excitement and scientific wonder as over 250 University of Wollongong education students hosted an incredible whole-school Science Day for Kindergarten to Year 6. Their enthusiasm, creativity, and teaching skills brought science to life and made the day truly unforgettable!

Students participated in a fantastic range of hands-on experiments and activities linked to the NSW Science and Technology syllabus. From creating rain clouds in a jar, exploring the phases of the moon, learning about gravity, and investigating solids, liquids, and gases — to discovering fascinating facts about Bower birds and the ever-popular “Elephant Toothpaste” experiment with its colourful foaming reactions — our students were inspired and engaged every step of the way.

The University of Wollongong students went above and beyond, dressing in themed costumes that matched their experiments and creating a lively, memorable atmosphere throughout the school. This event also provided invaluable teaching experience for these future educators while encouraging our students to think creatively, ask questions, and develop a deep passion for science.

We are truly grateful for this meaningful community partnership and thank the UOW students for their preparation, enthusiasm, and the energy they brought to our school. Science Day was a tremendous success and a wonderful celebration of curiosity, collaboration, and learning.

Here’s to many more days of discovery!

South Coast Oztag Champions

Our junior boys’ team didn’t take a backwards step in any of their matches. They demonstrated great teamwork, speed and skill across their side. The boys won 3 out of their 4 initial matches to finish in second place within their pool. This qualified them for the semi-finals. The boys won this game in a tight match-up with special mention going to Fletcher who scored a length of the field try off a kick off to win the match and put the boys in the grandfinal.

The grandfinal didn’t start according to plan, with the boys going down by 2 tries early on in the match. Instead of dropping their heads, they lifted and sparked a fantastic comeback. Max was instrumental with his play and lifted the side with some of his efforts during the grand final (and across the whole day).

The boys were all fantastic to finish off the match, as they came home strongly and ended with a 3-2 victory.

Shell Cove Public School Yrs 3 & 4 Boys - South Coast Champions

The senior girls came into the day slightly understrength, missing 3 of their selected players due to other commitments. However, it did not stop them at all! The girls finished the pool stage in first place, before going on to win their semi-final 5-1 and grand final 4-0! In fact, across all 6 games, the girls scored a total of 30 tries and only conceded 3. An incredible achievement by the side and it was really impressive to watch how well the girls put on plays and worked as a team all day.

Special mention to Evie G who scored phenomenal tries in both the semi final and final to get us off to a good start in those key matches. The tagging of the girls is also to be commended, with opposition teams really struggling to make any metres against us. Ari in particular, came up with some amazing tags to stop any momentum from the opposition.

Charli P shining at the Hockey State Championships

Charli travelled to Bathurst in Week 5 Term 2 to represent the South Coast team at the NSW PSSA Hockey State Championships. The team had an incredible tournament, making it all the way to the semi-finals before narrowly going down 1–0.

The team finished 4th in the state which is an amazing achievement!!

Charli played Centre Defender throughout the carnival, competing above her age group as she is only in Year 4!

Congratulations Charli!
